Salone del Mobile 2010 Previews: Canapo Chair by Franco Albini for Cassina.

Cassina’s “I Maestri” (the Masters) collection adds yet another piece by Italian architect, urban planner and designer Franco Albini (1905-1977) – the Canapo rocking chair. The first thing that stood out on this piece is the clean curvature. The fabric that supports the piece is ecru, attached using cords that form a graphic motif along the sides, and on top is a cushion in polyurethane foam that can be upholstered in leather or fabric.

This chair is available in natural or stained black ash and mahogany-tinted walnut. No release date nor pricing have been confirmed.

Tom Dixon will be launching a new collection entitled “Industry” in Milan. One of these products is the Offcut Bench made out of the offcut part of the tree – normally discarded in wood production – into one-of-a-kind benches. The benches come in two styles, the Natural version which is made from oak, and the Fluoro version which is made from birch. Both are treated with soap, which is the traditional method of finishing wood. The benches come flat-packed and can be assembled without screws or glue.
